The Legacy Continues: Goodbye to the Seniors

Written by: Melissa Khamvilay & Kurenai Phimsen

The basketball season comes to a close, and the seniors have said their very last “Go Tornadoes!” with their team this year. Looking back at the achievements our seniors have accomplished is surreal, and in no way is something easy to succeed. We’re proud to have Adeeya, Maddy, Kennadie, and Makenzie represent the class of 2025’s girls basketball players. They’ve individually faced difficult obstacles but found ways to persevere despite the circumstances as a team. We wish them good luck in all of their future endeavors.

The girls had many games that were successful, even if they hadn’t won and had felt accomplished in some way. They found themselves motivated to improve through the influence of their fellow teammates and supportive community. Everyday is a new day, and they didn’t let their losses define who they were as members of the team. Maddy explained that their greatest achievement as a team was beating conference teams or staying level with them in games. They’ve impacted classmates and aspiring basketball players by uplifting one another and becoming an influence on those who surround them. The class of 2025 seniors are students who became leaders. They’re hard working students who set high expectations for themselves, and are students who are admired in the eyes of many. This continues as Mackezie said that her defense in games like Cherokee or Spirit Lake, difficult teams to go against, was incredibly good.

College is something that the seniors see happening in their future as they wrap up their last year at Storm Lake High School. After college, each of the seniors hope to continue chasing the careers they would like to be in. Kennadie mentioned that she doesn’t plan to continue basketball after graduating high school, but still enjoyed playing basketball with her friends. We all hope they continue their lives with as much enthusiasm and focus as they did during basketball.
